My husband and I are planning on going on a cruise in the next couple of months. What cruise line is better (we are going to Mexico)… Carnival Splendor or Sapphire Princess?

Thank you.

First up, both are owned by Carnival. But Princess is a more upscale line. I would sail either line, but at the same price point I’d definitely go Princess.

Good luck!

Princess is the better cruise line. I would go with the Sapphire Princess without a doubt.

The Sapphire Princess sports some of the cruise line’s tried-and-true amenities, with a new twist. The trademark Skywalkers disco/lounge gets a makeover on this ship, with a 125-foot wide balcony where passengers can take an al fresco break from the dance floor action. Visit Club Fusion, which features 42 video screens and a spiral staircase that leads to Wake View Bar. Other amenities include an Asian-themed Lotus Spa, with a fitness center and outdoor sunken pool, the Sanctuary adult retreat and one of the largest Internet cafes at sea, complete with 29 computer stations. A nine-hole golf putting course and two computerized golf simulators allow passengers to tee off even while aboard the ship. Dining options abound, from a poolside pizzeria, hamburger grill and ice cream bar to Sabatini’s Italian restaurant and a 24-hour buffet/bistro. Stateroom amenities include refrigerator, television, spacious closet, bathroom with shower and 24-hour room service.

Princess Cruise lines are more of a upscale cruise line. I think its prefect for couples. The ships are fabulous and they have more than enough amenities to make your cruise unforgettable, Mexico is a fantastic destination and you should find a lot of shops and have a great time tasting the cuisine and besides learning about Mexico’s rich history.

    Have a great time

I have been on the Sapphire Princess and it really is a beautiful ship. Princess is much more upscale and classier then any Carnival ship with less kids, and better food. The service is impeccable and the ship does not have that glitzy Vegas feel, but more like a sophisticated hotel.

A lot of this will depend on what your tastes are. Are you looking for glitz and a party atmosphere, or are you looking for something a little more refined?

Carnival and Princess are owned by the same company. Carnival offers lower prices, and depending on which cruise you select, they can be either a party/booze cruise, or they can be very elegant, or have a mixture of both. It all depends on the particular cruise; its duration, its destinations, and the time of year that it sails.

I’ve enjoyed sailing with Carnival on 5 occassions. Their prices are pretty reasonable, the cabins are very roomy, the food is decent, and the ports of call are beautiful.

You will probably find an older, more refined crowd on Princess, (also longer cruises like 7 nights or more as apposed to 5 or less tend to attract a more favorable crowd) but my honest opinion is that you will have a fabulous time on either of these cruiselines. Whether you enjoy your vacation or not has to do with your mindset and attitude. A vacation is what you make it.
