Me and my husband are looking to go on a cruise in Aug.2010 for the first time. We have been looking at different cruise lines and kinda feel overwhelmed. We are planning to go to Western Caribbean for 5-7 days. So far Carnival has decent deals be we are looking for suggestions on other that maybe better. Any help would be great. Other suggestions of destination are welcome as well.

Norwegian has GREAT prices and nice ships. I would say its the most affordable. The whole "Freestyle Cruising", is to me, a huge plus!

What cruise lines are best and economical?

Carnival is the most affordable cruise line and the largest cruise line corp in the world. Another option would be Royal caribbean. It may cost a little more but the ships have more amenities, such as ice skating rink and rock walls..A good website to compare prices and book is ..

"Best" and "most affordable" are almost mutually exclusive when it comes to cruise companies! However, you can certainly go on a very nice cruise at a reasonable cost. I am not a travel agent, but suggest that you meet with one. It will cost you nothing, and a travel agent who books a lot of cruises can help you find the cruise that best meets your budget, your schedule, your preferences, and your expectations. Each cruise company has a slightly different "personality" — formal and traditional or very informal or inbetween — and attracts different types of passengers — families, couples, retired folks, party-hearty singles.

Both the Eastern and Western Caribbean routes are good! Take plenty of sunscreen and have a blast!

MSC and Costa are most affordable, although they are not as well known as Carnival. Costa is part of the Carnival corporation.

Most affordable would certainly be Carnival, but are they also the best? It depends on what you are looking for. Carnival tends to be more of a party cruise, and if you like that, then maybe it is best.

My personal opinion is that Royal Caribbean is best overall. They cost more than Carnival, but there is so much more to do on them, besides partying, and the ships are much nicer. I wouldn’t rule out Carnival, but I think if you go on RC first, then go on Carnival, you will be a little disappointed, whereas the other way around you will be pleasantly surprised.

Royal Caribbean for sure. Freedom of the Seas and Liberty of the Seas sail western caribbean year round (and eastern depending on the week). Carnival is cheap but food is bad, ships are crummy.

RC has rock climbing wall, inline skating and much more!
