Our family is hoping to take a cruise in the near future and were wondering what cruise line is the best when it comes to someone being in a wheelchair.
The link that was provided from Cruise Critic will really help you. I suggest contacting a travel agency for this. The travel agency I book my cruises through had a mailer once where they discussed cruising while in a wheelchair. You want to be well aware of how the cruise ships are laid out and how much space is available. They have to use every inch of space on a cruise ship, so in some spaces, it can be very hard to get around, especially if using a wheel chair. I've heard of people taking electric wheel chairs on board and having difficulty while in the stateroom and moving around (even in handicap rooms), while in the halls etc.
While most cruise lines do offer amenities for individuals in wheelchairs, it doesn't always mean that they are the most accessible. A travel agent is going to be able to give you accurate information for each cruise so you will be able to find the one that is best for you.
One very important thing, in my opinion, to look for is how the boats dock. Some lines will dock at the port, if available, while others may dock in the ocean and tender people in. Meaning, they will put you on to smaller boats to get you on to land. If this is the case, you may consider looking for another line, it can be very difficult to tender if you are in a wheel chair.
But again, look over the link for cruise critic, it will provide a lot of information.
I hope this helps! Enjoy your cruise, I love cruises, it is the best way to travel!!!
I am thinking about doing a cruise for our honeymoon… but it seems that all the rooms that aren't suites have only twin beds. Does anyone know if this is true, or do they have rooms for couples as well? I've emailed carnival but they haven't responded yet. Thanks!
Don't worry they are not just twin beds. They are but the are put together just make sure that your travel agent is aware so that they request it and have that done for you… I went on a cruise with my family and me my mom and my aunt stayed in one room and they were all twin beds seperated but when me and my boyfriend went on one by ourselves they had the beds together. (This was carnival and they were not suites either they were inside cabins)
My family would love to go on a Disney Cruise and i was wondering what kinds of activities are there. Other than swiming what else can the kids do?
I have been on several cruises including a Disney Cruise and there is no comparison with other cruiselines. It's expensive but worth every penny.
There is so much for kids to do on the cruise. Their kids club is unbelievable. There are 20-30 Disney Characters on board the kids can get photos and autographs from. The activites are non-stop, and the kids club directors are top notch. If you go to Disneycruise.com you'll be able to look at exactly what activities there are. Of course there are pools on board as well. What my husband and I also enjoyed were the adults only areas. When our daughter was occupied in the club we were able to lay by the adult pool for complete peace and quiet.
The dining on Disney is out of this world. It's great for the kids. Our daughter prefers more adult food so she ordered off the adult menu but there's a great menu for kids too. No kid will go hungry on the cruise, no matter how picky they are!!
Probably the most remarkable thing about the Disney Cruise were the shows. Each afternoon and evening, there was a different show. The shows were some of the best I've seen anywhere, and I"ve been to quite a few live productions. The talent is outstanding.
Depending on the cruise you take there is usually a stop at Castaway Cay. This is Disney's private Isalnd in the Bahamas. It's one of the most beautiful places I've ever been in my life. Our daughter had the time of her life there. Beautiful beaches, great food and drink and the Disney Characters even came to the beach as well.
As you can see I am a huge fan of Disney cruises. If you can go, you really should.
